Apotek Hjärtat introduces an age limit of 15 years for so-called advanced skin care products, the company announces.

“We want to be ahead, and take a greater responsibility for not being involved in pushing unhealthy behaviors and ideals that have grown up among many young people,” says Monika Magnusson, CEO of Apotek Hjärtat, in a press release.

Several media have reported on the increasing use of skin care among children, which according to dermatologists can entail risks.

Advanced skin care refers to products that, among other things, aim to reduce wrinkles or create an even skin tone. It doesn’t need children, according to chief pharmacist Annika Svedberg.

“It can be difficult for children to evaluate both the effect and potential consequences of advanced skin care products. The age limit gives us the opportunity to give advice on healthy skin care routines based on needs, not ideals, to both parents and children,” she says.

Anyone under the age of 15 may only purchase the products with parental approval or have a skin condition that justifies the use of such products. The age limit has already begun to be introduced at the chain’s pharmacies.
