I believe that indie games should always be given a chance. At least, when the game prices increase so much, it is enjoyable to take a look at other productions that will offer different tastes for us. Children of Silentown is one of these games. Developed in cooperation with Elf Games and Luna2 Studio, the production tells a story that is as cute as it is mysterious.

We manage a little girl named Lucy in the game. There are people in the village who have been missing for many years and no one goes to look for them. Of course, this situation is getting on the nerves of our hero Lucy, who suffers from the same problem. He sets out to find the traces of the disappeared. However, on this path, he is faced with problems that he must solve by using his intelligence. On top of that, the fact that his family and villagers never want to talk about the subject is one of the biggest obstacles in his way. However, Lucy’s nightmares haunt her and encourage her to solve the problem radically.

Progress in Children of Silentown is pretty simple. You communicate with people and things using your mouse. You use the information you get to solve the next problem. However, there are times when you can’t get information. In order to solve these, it may be necessary to soften the person or entity in front of you by using Lucy’s unique voice to sing. At the same time, you can also have information about some things by singing again. We don’t know these songs when we start the game. We need to get the notes and sing them by completing various tasks.

There are mini-games in the missions that we encounter during the game. Although there are usually tasks such as solving puzzles, there are also differentiations in some of them. For example, you can participate in a frog race with a hedgehog and learn more about the monster in the forest. While you are on this path, your most important assistants are the information of your friends. Although families do not want to talk about these events in front of their children, it should not be forgotten that children absorb information like a sponge. You have to take the scraps of knowledge from your friends and village elders by making them happy in some way and add them to your own story.

We are also collecting many items that may be useful to us as we progress. It will be your task to figure out when and where to use them. But you have to observe pretty well. Because it is easy to find a piece from even the smallest hole to advance your research. While we can sometimes use these items as they are, sometimes we need to move forward with the item we obtain by combining them.

Various puzzles appear before us to solve the problems. These are usually designed in a way that is not very difficult to decipher. Puzzles we have to solve in order to sew a piece of fabric in the correct order or to ensure that the water reaches between two points. Although each of them has different mechanics, it is enjoyable and as a result, we reach the necessary information to advance the story.

As we progress through the adventure, we don’t just solve musical notes or puzzles. There are also stickers we collect. You place them in your sticker pad. Although it is easy to find at first, it gets harder to find as you progress. Personally, I don’t want my notebook to be left unfinished. That’s why you have to be very careful. It would not be a lie if I say that I spend 15-20 minutes on some screens just excited to find a sticker. I haven’t been able to find them all yet.

When we look at it graphically, I have to say that Children of Silentown is not in a structure that we are used to from AAA games. Its visuals, worked like a painting, show it’s from an independent developer. But don’t take this as bad. Because the graphics are cute as well as not bothersome.

The music of Children of Silentown is also quite pleasant. However, it can be frustrating to listen to the same music after a while in a section where you are stuck. For this reason, I had to turn off the sound of the music from the menu after a while.

It should not be forgotten that one of the most important details in an adventure game is the details in the story told. If you do not speak English, sometimes you can miss important and important details that we need to pay attention to, even if the language is not very heavy. However, I have good news. The game has Turkish support. It has been translated from their menu to all the conversations in the game. Although all communication is displayed with speech bubbles (you can turn it off from the menu if you want), I’ve come across English conversation a few times in between. But these were also added to the game as subtitles.

I encountered an error 1-2 times. I couldn’t see the icons or conversations that needed to be clicked on the screen. While I was sure it was there, I was able to resolve this by going back to the main menu and then picking up where I left off. I don’t know if this problem is caused by my computer or the game. But if you encounter it, follow this method and it will be resolved.

I tried to convey all the details of the game in our Children of Silentown review article. In general, it was one of the productions that made me very happy. Because I missed the point and click style a lot. In addition, the fluency in the story and the enjoyable puzzles increased my belief in independent games. In the past period, I looked at many independent games that I did not even need to review, and deleted most of them after 10-15 minutes. I struggled to get Children of Silentown to the end. I don’t know the total duration of the game as I haven’t finished the game yet. However, it has taken me 12 hours so far. It was definitely a production that deserved the price it received.
