The pilot project’s method is based on so-called “task sharing” and means that psychologists quickly train adults who have good contact with children in the area in basic CBT techniques and targeted crisis support.
On several occasions, around 100 children in Järva in northwest Stockholm have been able to meet newly trained Sarah Aldoukhij and Filmon Tekle to share their experiences of gang violence.

The children initially have to answer a series of questions relating to gang violence to give an indication of how close the violence came. About ten children have been judged to have such severe trauma from what they saw and heard that they were sent on to BUP, child and youth psychiatry, among others.
– We work with children who have fallen through the cracks and where society has broken down and failed, says Sarah Aldoukhij.
The children who participate are aged 9-14. Save the children’s goal is to help 400 children.
