A 10-year-old girl has been stabbed in Brunnsparken in central Gothenburg.
– She was taken in an ambulance with serious injuries to hospital together with relatives, says Thomas Fuxborg, the police’s press officer, to TV4 Nyheterna.
The alarm came just before half past one on Thursday. A suspected perpetrator, who is aged 35, has been arrested by the police.
– During this attack, members of the public observed that something was not right and intervened and succeeded in subduing this perpetrator, and holding him until the police arrived at the scene, says Hans Jörgen Ostler, press officer at the police.
– It was done very judiciously, he continues.
The girl’s grandmother, who is in her 70s, was also injured in the attack. Her injuries are described as minor.
“Shocked witnesses”
– We are questioning witnesses at the scene and have cordoned off a large area, says Thomas Fuxborg.
– Many witnesses called in and were very shocked.
At 2:05 p.m., the police write that the damage is serious but stable. At the moment, the police do not see any connection between the arrested person and the girl. According to the GP, the man is not previously known to the police.
The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder.
