The violent protests that started the night before Friday in Leeds, northern England, have calmed down.
The protests started on Thursday early evening, when the police had responded to a home alarm mission and arrived at an apartment in the Harehills area of Leeds together with child protection.
Leader of Leeds City Council Tom Riordan does not agree to reveal the details of the case, but states that the authorities intervene in the situation whenever children may have been put in danger.
According to him, the community concerned about the situation had probably misinterpreted the situation. When more bystanders started to gather, the police decided to move the children to a safer place.
In connection with the protests, the demonstrators, among other things, set a bus on fire and overturned a police car. After the situation escalated, a huge number of police officers were sent to the scene to monitor public order.
British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has said he was shocked by the Leeds protests.
– This kind of disorder has no place in our society, he writes on the X message service.
