A third of the investigations into sex crimes committed against children and young people are linked to so-called sugar dating, according to a study carried out by the Crime Prevention Council (Brå).

According to the report, it is also among those cases that the most serious abuses are found, reports Sweden’s Radio Ekot.

The vulnerable children have been between 15 and 17 years old and the contacts have been made mainly on sites where adult perpetrators seek contact with younger people to buy sexual services.

Of the total of 69 police investigations and judgments reviewed by Brå, most of the crime victims are girls between the ages of 15 and 17, but there are also younger ones and boys. About 20 had connections to sugar dating.
