Its name probably means nothing to you, and yet the chebula could quickly become a must in your bathroom. It may even already be, lurking in the shadow of the list of ingredients in your favorite cosmetics… Well known in Ayurvedic medicine, it is now unanimous in beauty for its powerful anti-ageing powers.
It is under the name myrobalan chebule, or Indian myrobalan, fruit of Terminalia chebula or Haritaki, that this ingredient is best known by connoisseurs, in particular by followers of Ayurveda, traditional Indian ancestral medicine. But the good news is that you won’t have to remember all those names, because in the United States, where it’s starting to make a name for itself in the cosmetics sector, you’ll find it more simply under the name ‘ chebula’ in creams, serums, and other facial treatments.
An ingredient as old as the world
Known for millennia and used in Ayurvedic medicine, chebula is even considered a miracle ingredient in some countries and regions, including India and Tibet, because of its countless benefits. Anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, regenerating, it is even more famous for relieving digestive disorders, and would even improve memory, liver health, and resistance. A kind of multifunctional ingredient in a way, and that’s an understatement, since it would also be beneficial for the skin.
As we have said, Ayurvada lends it anti-inflammatory properties which are as beneficial for the body as for any skin problems that everyone may encounter at different stages of life. But that’s not all. Rich in antioxidants, the fruit of the chebula would be a major ally in the fight against skin aging. A power that raises the ingredient to the rank of serious competitor to vitamin C, also known for its antioxidant power, which has been essential for several years as a must in cosmetics.
Anti-aging with moisturizing properties
But the chebula has more than one trick up its sleeve, and does not content itself with helping to smooth, firm, and make the skin more elastic, since it would also participate in nourishing it in depth, all the more so if it is associated with other moisturizing ingredients, and even to protect it against external aggressions. Benefits that today make it a very popular plant in cosmetics, which should become a must in 2023.
The chebula is also starting to appear in the trend forecasts of many beauty players for the coming year. According to the latest report from the online cosmetics platform Beauty Pie, the chebula has climbed into the top 10 skincare trends of 2023, with a spectacular increase of 922% in the volume of searches carried out on Google over one year. The beauty expert is even counting on a boom in certain cosmetics based on the miracle ingredient in the next few months, including creams and serums. It’s official, natural anti-aging still seems to have a bright future ahead of it.
