A 36-year-old Chatham woman is accused of causing a fire at a Timmins Crescent four-plex Sunday night.
Emergency crews responded to a fire in the basement of an apartment in the multi-unit building at 9:35 pm, police said.
The criminal investigation section investigated the incident and alleged the accused, who was living at the address at the time, acted carelessly and started the fire, police said.
The accused was arrested on Monday and charged with arson, police said. She was later released conditions and a July 12 short date.
Well-being check results in charges against woman and man
A 33-year-old Chatham woman and 39-year-old Chatham man face several charges after Chatham-Kent police conducted a well-being check Monday morning.
Police found the pair, who are under a court order not to be communicating with each other, after responding to a man being seen walking on Scane Street in Chatham with a wounded arm.
Police allege the man falsely identified himself. After learning his actual identity, the officers confirmed he was on a release condition not to communicate with the woman.
It was also determined the woman had allegedly caused the man’s injury, but he refused medical attention, police said.
The man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order and obstructing a police officer. He was taken to police headquarters and held for bail, police said.
The woman was arrested and charged assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and facilitating a breach of release order. She was released with a July 7 court date, police said.
Walpole Island woman charged with assault
A 30-year-old Walpole Island woman is facing an assault charge after Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance at a Dufferin Avenue business in Wallaceburg Monday morning.
Police were informed the woman had previously trespassed at the business.
When an employee asked the woman to leave, she allegedly became angry and spat at the employee before striking the employee in the face and arm, police said.
The woman left the business before police arrived.
The accused was located, arrested and charged, and later released with a July 15 court date, police said.
