“It’s an honor and I’m looking forward to being a part of (the board),” Dawson, 52, whose term runs until 2027, said.

Like many NPSOA members, he’s a second-generation print shop owner, having taken over the business his father Keith Dawson, a former high school teacher, started in 1978.

“Being a print owner wasn’t a longtime dream, but when I graduated, an opportunity came up within the business,” said Dawson, who holds a University of Waterloo math degree with a minor in business.

“I took a little while, but I now love the business and the industry and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else,” he added.

“David brings considerable expertise to the board and is a regular participant in NPSOA’s Think Tanks and national conferences,” association chairperson Nathaniel Grant said in the release. “He will bring a fresh perspective and undoubtedly many new ideas.”

Dawson said it has been excellent to be involved with the association.

Members have offered helpful information and advice on running and growing his business, Dawson said.

“As I’ve learned more, I’ve been happy to give back and share what I’ve learned with others,” he said.

Dawson added he also enjoys helping local businesses and customers “beyond the scope of their printing or sign order.”
