A 30-year-old Chatham man faces an assault charge after being accused of hitting another man with a baseball bat.

Chatham-Kent police were called to a disturbance on Randolf Crescent in Chatham just before 3 pm Monday. Police said the accused and another man were in a physical altercation. The accused then allegedly hit the man with a baseball bat, police said.

The accused was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was later released with a Dec. 19 short date.

Chatham-Kent man accused of threatening woman

A 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man faces charges after allegedly threatening to harm a woman.

Chatham-Kent police said the accused was released from police custody on Sept. 13 with conditions that included not communicating with a woman or visiting her residence, place of work or any place she is known to be.

Police said the accused went to the woman’s home at 5 am Monday and allegedly threatened to harm her.

The accused reportedly entered her home without permission but fled after realizing she called police.

Officers arrived and found the accused a short distance way and he was arrested, police said.

The accused was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, uttering threats and being unlawfully in a dwelling. He was taken to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing, police said.
