Chatham-Kent’s growing seed library returns

Chatham Kents growing seed library returns

Officials with the Chatham-Kent Public Library have set a goal to distribute over 8,000 packages of seeds from its annual seed library this year.

That would exceed the 6,200 packages for growing vegetables, flowers and herbs loaned out last spring, according to a news release from the library.

The seeds are available at the Chatham, Blenheim, Bothwell, Dresden, Highgate, Merlin, Ridgetown, Thamesville, Tilbury and Wallaceburg branches. Wheatley-area residents can visit the Wheatley Depot at the Village Resource Center for their seeds.

“CKPL Grows Seed Library provides an opportunity for residents of Chatham-Kent to grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable food and create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and local communities,” the release said.

“Chatham-Kent Public Library members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow and return some of those seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season.”

The library is accepting seed donations at any branch. Residents are asked to fill out a donation form of the seed name, variety and information on how to grow, the release said.
