Chatham-Kent Public Health looks to fill two board vacancies

CK Public Health is seeking citizen volunteers to fill two health board vacancies.

The new board appointees are needed to contribute to the agency’s strategic direction and growth, a release said.

The openings, for four-year terms starting Jan. 1, 2025, are described by the board as a “unique opportunity for individuals passionate about public health to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of the community of Chatham-Kent.

“Being a member of the board of health offers a rewarding experience where volunteers can contribute their expertise, have the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals, engage in strategic decision-making, and drive positive change in the community,” the release said.

The board of health:

  • Appoints a full-time medical health officer.
  • Hires staff to carry out board functions outlined in the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
  • Provides the municipality with an annual budget notice.

Board of health members:

  • Have a strong commitment to and understanding of public health programs.
  • Attend board meetings, actively participate, and serve as officers.
  • Serve in a voluntary capacity without regard to remuneration or profit.
  • Identify and declare any conflicts of interest.
  • Represent the health unit in the community.
  • Recognize decisions made for the board are separate and apart from municipal council decisions.

Candidates must be older than 18 and either own or be a tenant of property in Chatham-Kent.

The deadline to submit an application is Aug. 8 by 4:30 pm
