Chatham-Kent police have been kept busy dealing with people impaired by drugs or alcohol over the weekend.

Police were called to an address on Merritt Avenue in Chatham Saturday night in response to a male being high on drugs who was also being combative.

Police said the 28-year-old man admitted to recently taking fentanyl, resulting in him being arrested for breach of the peace.

He transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance after being cleared medically, police said he was released into the care of family members.

Around 2 am Saturday, police were on general patrol in Tilbury when they located a man on Young Street in an agitated state.

The 42-year-old Chatham man, who was unable to care for himself, was taken into custody for his own safety. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.

Friday around 10 am, police responded to a report of a man lying in the middle of Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham.

Police said the 20-year-old Chatham man was not able to care for himself, so he was taken into custody and has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was released when sober.

Police also arrested two people in Chatham within an hour of each other for impaired driving early Saturday morning.

Police said investigation revealed the accused was on conditions to not attend the residence or communicate with the man residing there.

The accused was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and another count of failing to comply with a release order. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

Failing to comply, resist arrest

A 21-year-old Wallaceburg man landed in custody after Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance at a Wallaceburg residence around 10 p.m. Friday.

Police said the accused was released from court Jan. 7 with several conditions, including that he resides at a specific address in Wallaceburg and not be outside the residence with alcohol in his body.

Police said the accused allegedly resisted while being arrested.

He was charged with two counts of failing to comply and resist peace officer and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
