A 28-year-old man faces weapons charges after allegedly throwing a firearm into the Thames River from a bridge in downtown Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police responded to reports of a man walking on King Street West with what appeared to be a rifle.

Police learned the accused was bound by a condition of a release order and weapons prohibitions.

A Chatham-Kent man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, failing to comply with a release order and four counts of possession a weapon contrary to a prohibition, police said.

He was held in custody pending bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent man accused of kicking in front door of police headquarters

A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with mischief after allegedly breaking the glass on the front door of Chatham-Kent police headquarters by kicking it at about 11:30 pm Monday.

Police said the man fled, but was found causing a disturbance at his mother’s home a short time later.

He was arrested and released with an April 24 court date.

Raleigh Township man charges with public intoxication

A 74-year-old Raleigh Township man is charged with public intoxication after Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham Monday.

Officers located the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself at about 11 am

He was arrested and held until sober, police said.
