Chatham-Kent man faces arson charge after Wallaceburg fire

Police investigate Wallaceburg break in

A 60-year-old Chatham-Kent man is accused of purposely setting a structure fire in Wallaceburg on New Year’s Day.

Chatham-Kent police said emergency crews responded to the blaze on Wall Street and, through investigation, officers formed grounds to arrest the man for setting the fire.

The accused surrendered to police at 4 pm on Wednesday.

He was charged with arson and released with conditions and a Feb. 13 short date, police said.

Man charged with criminal harassment

A 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man is accused of visiting a woman he was under a probation order not to be near.

Chatham-Kent police said the accused entered a probation order with a condition not to communicate or be within 200 meters of a woman after he was convicted of criminal harassment.

Police said the accused allegedly went to the woman’s home early Wednesday evening and failed to leave when asked.

The accused was arrested and charged with criminal harassment and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, police said.

He was released with a Feb. 6 short date.

Failing to attend short

Chatham-Kent police caught up to a 48-year-old Wallaceburg man wanted for failing to attend court after responding to a call at 5:45 am Wednesday about suspicious activity at a Murray Street business in Wallaceburg.

Once on scene, police said it was learned the accused was wanted for failing to attend court last year, so he was arrested.

The accused was released with a Feb. 6 short date.
