A Chatham-Kent native has returned home to lead the municipality’s film liaison office.

FLiCK (Filming Locally in Chatham-Kent), which was announced last July, will offer film production companies a wide range of services to support their projects.

These can include location scouting and permit assistance, as well as access to local crews, talent, and equipment.
In a release Wednesday, the municipality announced that Ashley Renders has accepted the role of economic development officer, FLiCK liaison.
She will investigate and research the potential for Chatham-Kent to become a film industry destination.
Renders, who recently moved back to the municipality, brings years of experience in film and film production, having worked on both domestic and international films during the past decade.

She has worked on films such as Longing (2023), starring Richard Gere, Priscilla (2023), directed by Sofia Coppola, and more.
“I’m delighted to bring my experience in the international film industry back to my hometown,” Renders said in the release. “Chatham-Kent has so much potential and I’m eager to uncover new economic opportunities for our community and to help highlight everything that our beautiful region has to offer.”

Stuart McFadden, economic development director, believes Renders will be an asset to the community.
“Ashley’s well-rounded understanding of the film industry, paired with her local connection to Chatham-Kent, uniquely positions her to navigate the complexities of the film industry, while promoting the interests of the municipality,” he said.
“We look forward to working with, and learning from Ashley over the next year as we explore the possibilities ahead.”
