Chatham Kent Hike for Hospice raises over 150K

More than 600 participants helped this year’s Chatham-Kent Hike for Hospice raise more than $150,000 for end-of-life care, organizers say.

People could hike Mud Creek Trail throughout last week, or attend an in-person event May 7.

“We are so thankful to the hikers and the donors for all they do to support our hospice families,” said Ginny Hawken, the hospice foundation board’s special event chair, in a release.

“It was so touching to see so many people walking together on the trail and all the memorial signs are just a reminder of the impact hospice has made in our community over the past seven years.”

Many Chatham-Kent workplaces took part in the corporate challenge.

The winning team was Hopkins Hikers from Hopkins Canada in Blenheim. Honorable mentions went to Battery Boy, Kent & Essex Mutual Crusaders, Hub Hikers, Maple Mutuals and TekSavvy Trailblazers.

The hospice provides residential hospice care and care co-ordination, as well as grievance and bereavement support to local families at no cost to them.

The event has raised more than $785,000 since it began in 2017.

Battery Boy returned as title sponsor, with additional sponsor support from MicroAge/McBusiness Solutions, JMRD Watson Wealth Management Group, the Chatham Lions Club and Teksavvy.
