Chatham Kent Fair opens Thursday

Midway rides, games, entertainment and more will be available when the Chatham-Kent Fair opens Thursday.

“Everything is coming together,” Summit Shows Canada owner Chris Glassford Wednesday as some vendors began arriving at the Memorial Arena grounds in Chatham.

The local event planner stepped forward to fill the void when the Kinsmen Fair was forced to cancel this year after its midway supplier unexpectedly backed out.

“I don’t think it’s going to be as large a scale as past fairs, but at least it’s happening,” Glassford said.

Wallaceburg’s Family Time Amusements will provide the midway rides during the fair, he said. There also be a ribber, entertainment tent and other features.

Admission is free when the fair opens at 2 p.m. Thursday. It runs through Sunday.

The featured event Thursday is a Hoedown Dance from 6 to 10 pm, designed to be a fun event for all age groups, Glassford said.

On Friday, anyone with student ID can get into a UV dance and laser show that goes from 8 pm to midnight.

Saturday is geared to families with princess and hero parties planned, he said.

Sunday will feature karaoke contests for kids, teens, adults and seniors with a chance to win $200, Glassford said.

“We’re going to have some fun this weekend and hopefully moving forward the Kinsmen will be able to get things back on track.”
