Chatham-Kent announces cooling station partnership

With summer approaching, Chatham-Kent’s employment and social services is co-ordinating with community partners to provide cooling stations.

In the event of a heat warning, employment and social services will post on its social media accounts, as well as email community partners to advise that the following locations will be available for anyone in need of relief:

Hope Haven: 183 Wellington St. W., Chatham, open daily from 10 am to 2 pm
Reach Out Chatham-Kent: 233 Nelson St., Wallaceburg, open Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Municipal offices in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg: open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Their locations can be found at www.chatham-kent.ca/services or call 311 to inquire.
Employment and social services office: first floor of the health and human services building at 435 Grand Ave. W., Chatham, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Chatham-Kent public library: branches will be available during their regular hours. Their locations and hours can be found at www.chatham-kent.ca/library

Anyone can be affected by extreme heat-related weather conditions, depending on length of time and exposure to heat and exertion levels. Those especially at risk include:

  • Adults older than 65
  • Infants and young children
  • Outdoor workers
  • Homeless persons or those lacking shelter, water, or food

During extremely hot weather, residents are encouraged to check in on friends and neighbors who may be at risk and keep pets inside.
