They were bitter rivals for many years on the ski slopes.
Soon both Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug will become mothers for the first time.
Now the Swede opens up about the relationship with the Norwegian in an interview with Sportbibeln.
Side by side, they have accomplished great deeds for their respective countries and achieved great success. But in the tracks where Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug great rivals and fought many duels against each other over the years.
Called a fine career
Kalla can boast of his three Olympic golds, three WC golds, a total of 22 major championship medals and a whopping 37 SM golds during his fantastic career. She is considered one of Swedish skiing’s greatest heroes of all time and has a track record that few others can match.

But the Swede is still in the lee when it comes to the Norwegian ski queen Therese Johaug who completely dominated cross-country skiing at the end of his career, bagging four Olympic golds, 14 World Cup golds and winning the overall World Cup twice. Both ended their careers in 2022 and after that both have also stepped into the television box in different ways.

Both are pregnant
Johaug went straight into a role as an expert commentator at Norwegian NRK and was recently seen during the skiing WC in Planica. While Kalla is currently very current as one of the dancers in the TV4 program “Let’s Dance”.

The skiing icons are also entering into their other important tasks after the end of their careers, as both are currently pregnant and are about to become mothers for the first time in their lives. Johaug is a few months ahead of Kalla in pregnancy, but both children will be born in the same year.

The words about Johaug
Charlotte Kalla now admits that she has contacted the former rival in Norway after the news that they will have children of the same age soon.
– Yes, I have spoken to Therese, or just texted and asked how she is doing in life and how she is doing, the 35-year-old tells Sportbibeln.
So you have a little relationship over text messages and such?
– Yes exactly.
Even Therese Johaug has admitted that the competitors hear each other very often and have a good relationship after their careers, despite all the duels against each other over the years.
– It’s very funny that Charlotte is going to have a child. We write to each other a lot. She’s expecting hers a little later than me, but it’s good to be able to exchange experiences along the way and talk about how you experience things. It feels fantastic that we can show others that top sport does not break you down and that it is actually possible to become a mother after a long sports career at the top, she has said in an interview with Expressen and also told what they usually talk about:
– How the body is and how you feel. We exchange experiences. We can share what we can do while exercising and what we can’t do during pregnancy. We speak the same language when it comes to that.
