Poor in calories (20 kilocalories per 100 grams), laxative, diuretic and emollient, this vegetable is tonic and refreshing while it is rich in mineralsfibers and trace elements.
Varieties of chard
Very close to the beet, the chard exists in several forms. There are leafy chard (whose leaves are eaten, like spinach chard) and Swiss chard (whose petioles are eaten, like red Swiss chard).
Storage of chard
It is kept at fridge 8 to 10 days in a half-opened or perforated sachet, the best being to consume it as soon as possible. They freeze well after light steam blanching.
