Chaotic weather thunders over the country: “It’s completely crazy”

Rescue services and police in Stockholm, Norrköping and Jönköping, among others, are busy dealing with the severe storm that moved in over Central Sweden during the evening.

In the municipality of Nässjö in Jönköping, the emergency services are “busy” helping those whose properties were flooded, reports SVT.

– Among other things, they have had to help a person out of a stuck car
in the bodies of water, a line operator at the rescue service tells SVT.

The police: “It’s completely crazy”

In Norrköping, the storm has created “chaos”, reports NT. The police received nine alarms linked to water damage – in half an hour, write DN. Among other things, a number of sinkholes have appeared in the area.

– It’s completely crazy. I’ve actually never seen anything like it. There must have been a heavy downpour, says Johnny Gustavsson, the police’s press officer, to the newspaper.

In Uppsala, a barn burned to the ground, after the fire, according to the emergency services, is believed to have been started by a lightning strike, reports P4 Uppland.

The emergency services were alerted to the fire at 19:00 and when they arrived at the scene the building was already engulfed in flames, writes UNT. No animals are said to have been in the barn when it burned.

That’s how the storm moves

SMHI has issued warnings for both rain and lightning linked to the storm that will move in over Stockholm areas during the night.

– This applies to parts of northern Götaland and eastern Svealand up to the southern parts of Gästrikland. There can be downpour-like rain that can produce very large amounts, which it has now apparently done, says Peter Kondrup, meteorologist.

According to Kondrup, the current storm is reminiscent of last week’s giant storm Hans.

– Even if the situation is not exactly the same, it reminds me of Hans. Very warm air comes up from southern Europe and moves up towards Poland, the Baltics where it has been up to 30 degrees, he says and continues:

– Then we have much cooler air to the west of us and then a low pressure and a front form and very intense thunder and rain showers.
