This week, the electricity supplier Ellevio sent out an email to its customers informing them that they will adjust the prices next year.
“New electricity grid price from January 2025”, the email begins.
Why are prices adjusted?
This is what they write on their website:
“From January 1, 2025, Simple and Time subscriptions will be replaced with Power subscriptions. This means that you who have a villa, terraced house, holiday home or a business premises will pay based on how much power you use.”
The background to this is a decision from the Energy Market Inspectorate that all electricity grid companies must introduce an impact fee. The aim is that Sweden’s entire electricity grid can be used as efficiently as possible.

Therefore, 500,000 households get more expensive electricity bills: “The losing side”
Then it is cheapest to use the electricity grid
The electricity output will be measured as hourly average output, which means the average of your total electricity use during an hour.
“The power fee is based on the average of the three highest power peaks, i.e. the three hours with the highest hourly average power, spread over three different days during the month,” writes Ellevio.
Every day between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., it is cheaper to use the electricity grid – then only half the power peak counts.
However, the performance fee is the same regardless of the day of the week or time of day.
