We wanted a name that sounds French because we are a French brand and at the same time linked to footwear. We finally found the name “chamberlan” in an old dictionary. They were craftsmen who made shoes by hand in chambered, so they were called chamberlans or chamberlans. This is how we came up with the name of the brand we are chamberlans. »

Shoes of your dreams

Born in Picardy, in the north of France, Sophie Engster went to business school in Bordeaux, after her studies, she joined a large luxury group in the field of marketing. In 2014, she met Franck Le Franc, the other co-founder. In 2015, they launched Chamberlan, a brand of women’s shoes made in France. Chamberlan is the adventure of a brand but also that of a workshop, the maintenance of French shoemaking know-how, innovation, and an eco-responsible approach. The upcycled leathers come from dormant stocks of luxury houses, the velvet goat skins, metallic lambskin come from French, Italian or Spanish tanneries.

There are less than 23 tanneries left in France, not all of them make women’s shoe leather. There are 900 Italian tanneries and they are more open to small creators. We are fortunate to work with tanneries that also work for the big luxury brands and who agree to supply us with hides, that is to say a third of square meters. It’s important to find the right suppliers, but it’s not easy. Now for the lining on black or gold, we can buy in France, the other colors, it is often Italy or Spain, it is less than 1000 km from us. But making shoes 100% made in France is mission impossible. »

Rgive the power of women to create their shoes, those where their feet are comfortable for elegance in all circumstances. Franck Le Franc, co-founder of Chamberlan.

First of all, we started working on the fit (the footwear is all the characteristics of a shoe that allow it to fit the foot correctly and comfortably), on the dynamics of the foot, because a foot which is on 4 or 9 cm of heel, it is always necessary to walk with, therefore, the deformation of the foot must be taken into account in the study of the volume and not only in the ‘aesthetic. We created Chamberlan on this objective of comfort. This means that today even our shoes, which are available for sale ready-to-wear, will all be able to be made to measure, if the customer needs or wishes to do so. »
