On Thursday, the Democratic Party, which is part of the opposition, filed a new motion to file criminal charges against Yoon.
Leader of the ruling conservative PPP party in South Korea Han Dong-hoon said on Thursday that the country’s president Yoon Suk-yeol must be immediately removed from office. According to Hani, the only way to make this happen is the support of the representatives of the ruling party for criminal charges in the country’s parliament.
The president also represents the PPP party.
The turmoil is related to the state of emergency that the president declared on Tuesday last week. It was only in effect for a few hours before the parliament repealed it. The incident was followed by political turmoil.
“I’m going to fight until the end”
The president said shortly after Hani’s announcement that he still does not intend to resign from his post. In a televised speech, Yoon defended his state of emergency declaration and denied allegations of a coup attempt.
– I intend to fight to the end and prevent the activities of the forces and criminal groups responsible for paralyzing the government and disrupting the constitutional order, threatening the future of the Republic of Korea, Yoon said in his speech.
Yoon accused the liberal Democratic Party of threatening the constitution.
Last week, the official criminal charge brought by the opposition failed in the parliament’s vote when PPP members boycotted the vote. On Thursday, the Democratic Party filed a new motion to file criminal charges against Yoon.
