Finnish-language music has never been seen so high on the British list of best-selling albums before. The Eurovision Song Contest also colors the list published today.
Finland’s Eurovisa representative Wrapper Cha Cha Cha is the sixth best-selling single in Britain this week, says the publisher of the official sales list The Official Chart Company (you will be transferred to another service).
The list was published on Friday evening BBC Radio 1 (switch to another service) in the list program. The official UK chart consists of sales of downloads, CDs and vinyl records, and audio and video streaming.
– Prepare to have your mind blown, said the host of the BBC’s list show Jack Sauders Inside the wrapper.
In the past, Finns have managed to make an effort to top the British singles list Bomfunk MC and Freestyler for 2nd place, Darude and Sandstorm as well The Rasmus and In The Shadows both at #3.
Finland’s only Eurovision winner Lord’s Hard Rock Hallelujah reached number 26 in the UK charts in 2006.
Britlista reflects the taste of music consumers and buyers. It is difficult for non-English songs to break into the bestseller list in the island kingdom.
For example, the five-year winner of 2021 Måneskin’s Zitti e buoni peaked at number 17.
Already earlier, Cha Cha Cha became the most played Finnish-language song of all time on Spotify.
Eurovision is heavily featured in the British chart
Britain’s singles list this week is otherwise very Eurovision-tinged. The five-point winner did the best Loreenwhose Tattoo went straight to number two in the UK Official Chart.
This way he beat his own record from 2012, when Euphoria peaked at number three in the British charts. It was Loreen’s only chart position in Britain so far.
The top 10 also includes Britain’s own song I Wrote a Song at number 9 and Norway’s song Queen of Kings at number 10.
