Nayib Bukele, President of the Central American country El Salvador, stated that gang members caused the death of a policeman and announced that the city of Nueva Concepcion in the north of the country was besieged.
In a statement on his Twitter account, Bukele emphasized that the war they waged against the gangs continues and said, “Five thousand members of the armed forces and 500 policemen blockaded the city of Nueva Concepcion in order to catch those responsible for the death of our hero police.” used the phrase.
Bukele, who shared the operation footage of the military units on his social media account, stated that there are still gang members hidden in some parts of the country.
Bukele said, “We will bring those responsible for the murders out of their hiding places. We will give the gang members and their collaborators the punishment they deserve and send them to prison, where they will never be able to get out.” used the phrase.
Emphasizing that they are determined to fight against gangs, Bukele noted that they do not care about what the international non-governmental organizations and media that criticize the operations say.
THE LARGEST PRISON IN THE AMERICA WAS OPENED
The “Terror Conservation Center”, which was built to fight against gangs and stated to be the largest prison in the Americas, was opened by President Bukele on February 2.
A total of 4,000 gang members were transferred to the mega prison with a capacity of 40,000 on February 26 and March 16.
MS13 GANG KEPT RESPONSIBLE
A state of emergency was declared in El Salvador for one month on March 27, 2022, and then this decision was renewed every month.
