The first sentence was handed down in 1995 and, according to Demirok, must have had its origin in a fight at the high school where he attended. The second time he was sentenced was in 1999 after what Demirok describes as “an unnecessary fight” at a student party.
Demirok recently informed the selection committee about the judges.
– Even if they are two mistakes that lie far back in time, they are questions that have been deep inside me, tainted with regret and a lot of shame. It is important that the members have all the information before the election is made, says Demirok to the newspaper.
When asked if he thinks this effectively means the end of his candidacy, he replies:
– No I do not think so. I hope I can be defined by who I am today and my political deeds, not what happened 24 or 28 years ago.
