Paul Abbate, Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), advocated censoring documents related to the investigation that said US President Joe Biden “exchanged money illegally” while he was vice president.
Abbate testified to the US Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the bribery investigation involving Biden and his son, the Washington Examiner reported.
Responding to criticism of the existence of censored sections in the documents related to the investigation, Abbate said, “The documents were censored to protect our (information) source.” used the phrase.
Abatte declined to provide information on the “possible criminal bribery relationship” with a Ukrainian businessman during Joe Biden’s tenure as US Vice President.
Asked by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley to bring an uncensored version of the documents to the Senate and claiming that “there are 17 audio recordings of a foreign national bribing Biden and his son,” Abatte said: “I have no idea if there is a tape.” said.
When Grassley was Biden’s vice president, he had called on the FBI to make publicly available classified documents that allegedly showed the “illegal exchange of money” from a foreign businessman.
TENSION BETWEEN REPUBLIC ATTORNEYS AND THE FBI
In early May, Republican lawmakers sent letters to the FBI and the Justice Department requesting the document, which they claimed contained details of Biden’s “illegal exchange of money involving a foreign national” for policy decisions while he was vice president.
However, the FBI refused to share information on this matter, stating that “it is critical to refrain from disclosing information that could harm judicial investigations, unfairly damage the privacy or reputation of individuals, and create false impressions in the public.”
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer demanded that FBI Director Christopher Wray be held responsible for “contempt of Congress” for failing to provide the relevant document.
White House officials argue that the Republicans’ claims are baseless and that it is a “political demonstration”. (AA)
