Celebrated war film surprisingly appears as a limited 4K media

Last week he was nominated for nine Oscars, and it has now been announced that the German Netflix production Nothing New in the West will have its own home cinema release. The acclaimed film impresses with its heart-rending recreation of the Died in World War I. The inhuman horror in the trenches has seldom been portrayed as impressively as in Edward Berger’s (The Terror) film. There was even one of the nine Oscar nominations for Best Picture, an honor that is extremely rare for non-English language films.

On March 24, 2023, Nothing New in the West will be released in a limited media book in 4K UHD quality. You can pre-order the new issue now:

This is known about the mediabook of the Netflix film

The film adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel of the same name will be published by Capelight. It is a 2-disc media book with Ultra HD Blu-ray and a normal Blu-ray (via Blu-ray-Disc.de)

A booklet is of course also part of the equipment. So far, however, there is neither information about the cover nor the bonus material.

In any case, it’s unusual for a Netflix film to get a physical home theater release in this country. As a rule, such productions remain exclusively in the streaming service’s catalogue.

What is Nothing New in the West about?

Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer) is just 17 years old in the spring of 1917, but he and his friends can hardly wait to finally go to war himself, which has been shaping Europe for three years. The patriotic clique, including Paul’s best friends Albert (Aaron Hilmer) and Müller (Moritz Klaus), already see themselves moving into Paris and celebrating the victory.

And then the time has finally come: you can volunteer and go to the Western Front for God and Fatherland. But the enthusiasm instilled in them is short-lived. In muddy trenches, during day-long marches and in the face of the French enemy and his gunfire, the initial euphoria turns into fear, suffering and sadness. In the struggle for survival, they get to know the true face of war. But leaving is no longer an option and so they have to keep going without hope.
