Ceasefire over – fighting in Gaza

With less than an hour left in the seventh day of the pause in fighting between Israel and Hamas, there were no confirmed reports of a further extension.

On Friday morning, the Israeli military said it had resumed fighting and accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire, AP reports.

“Hamas has broken the pause in the fighting and has also fired at Israel,” the Israeli military (IDF) writes on its account on X, formerly Twitter.

Israel’s military (IDF) also claimed to have shot down a rocket fired from Gaza towards Israel during the morning. According to Haaretz newspaper, it was the first time since the pause in fighting, or temporary ceasefire, came into effect on November 24 that sirens were heard warning residents of the southern city of Sderot and areas near Gaza.

Hamas-linked media reported shortly afterwards on explosions and gunfire in northern Gaza.

Earlier in the morning, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Egyptian sources, that Israel and Hamas would agree to an eighth day of pause. However, it was never confirmed by either Israel or Hamas yet.
