Ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh after Azerbaijan’s operation

During yesterday, Azerbaijan launched an “anti-terrorist operation” in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Many have died and even more have been injured, according to Armenia.
Now the Armenian separatists state that they will lay down their weapons.

During yesterday, it was announced that Azerbaijan is sending forces to the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh on the country’s border with Armenia, something that the Minister of Defense calls an “anti-terrorist operation”.

Aircraft alarms and explosions have been heard in the region both on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Armenia states that 32 people were killed and that over 200 people were injured in connection with the operation, AFP reports. Civilians and children are among the victims.

Russian peacekeepers mediated

The leadership in Azerbaijan stated that it will not end the operation until “illegal Armenian military formations” surrender.

Armenian separatists said during the morning Swedish time that they agree to lay down their weapons to end the two days of fighting.

Russia, which has peacekeeping forces in place in the region, is said to have helped mediate the agreement between the parties.

The news agency reports that the separatists will hold “integration talks” with the leadership in Azerbaijan on Thursday.
