American speleologist Mark Dickey has become seriously ill during an expedition a thousand meters underground in a cave in Turkey.
Now a major effort is underway to get Dickey up, who says in a video clip that he is “up and walking and alive” but that he is not “restored on the inside”.
The rescue is estimated to take several days, perhaps weeks. One difficulty is that there are narrow passages along the way up that can be difficult to get through with a stretcher.
