Cathedral bombed in attack on Odessa – one dead

A total of 14 people, three of whom were children, had been taken to hospital at 03:00, says Governor Oleh Kiper. At least one civilian has been killed, he adds.

An Orthodox cathedral in central Odessa has been damaged in connection with the attack, images from the scene show.

There is also damage to civil infrastructure and residential buildings, the governor writes on Telegram.

Rescue services are working to search for the injured in the affected locations in the port city. Pictures show, among other things, a bombed-out apartment building.

The air raid warning of Russian attacks has gone off several times during the night in the region. At 02.45 at the latest, residents were urged to quickly seek shelter.

The port city of Odessa, as well as the southern region’s port infrastructure, has been attacked by Russia several times this week.

Among other things, 60,000 tons of grain were destroyed in an attack on the port of Odessa overnight Wednesday, in what appears to have been part of an ongoing effort to cripple Ukraine’s food exports since Moscow pulled out of the Black Sea grain deal.
