Catania the airport remains closed until 6 on August 15th

(Finance) – The management company of theCatania airport communicated that, due to the eruptive activity of Etna and the contextual fallout of volcanic ash, the flight operations are suspended until hours 06:00 tomorrow, Tuesday 15th August. The reopening of the Vincenzo Bellini international airport, which was supposed to be operational again at 20.00 today, Monday 14 August, has therefore been postponed.

All arrivals and departures are therefore prohibitedreads a note, which invites passengers to present themselves at the airport only after consulting their airline.

The choice of the airport operator to suspend flights until tomorrow – even if theINGV-Etna Observatory has issued a VONA (Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation) in colour green – is probably due to the presence of Etna ash in the air and on the runway.

Since many areas of the city have been covered by a layer of volcanic ash, the mayor Enrico Trantino has in fact issued an ordinance with which he orders the temporary ban on the circulation of two-wheeled vehicles (cycles and motorcycles) for 48 hours and the use of vehicles until maximum speed of 30 km/hour in all roads in the municipal area.
