Masks are making a reappearance in Catalonia. Faced with the resurgence of respiratory viruses such as influenza or Covid-19, the regional Minister of Health announced, this Friday, January 5 in the afternoon, the return of the compulsory wearing of masks in all health centers and hospitals while some, saturated, had already started to refuse and redirect their patients due to lack of space.

Peak of contagion

In the region, flu cases have tripled in one month and, according to experts, the peak of contagion will only be reached within two to three weeks. This announcement was well received by the Catalan population. It must be said that it has only been six months since the compulsory wearing of masks in these health centers was lifted, after three years of Covid-19.

National coordination

The neighboring regions of Valencia and Murcia have also decided to apply this measure. And next Monday, in Madrid, the Spanish Minister of Health plans to bring together all the autonomous communities during an extraordinary council to coordinate actions in the country and thus try to relieve pressure on health services.
