The Frenchman Ugo Humbert, ranked 112th in the world, stood for a real bang when he beat Ruud – who was in the final of the French championships – with 3-1 in sets in the second round of the grand slam tournament. After a weak first set, Humbert turned the match around and then won three straight sets.
Ruud eventually fell with the set numbers 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 4-6.
In Wimbledon’s third round, Humbert will face 58-ranked David Goffin from Belgium.
Humbert has proven to be a nightmare opponent for Ruud. This was the third time he defeated the Norwegian on the ATP tour.
Humbert’s highest ranking in the world rankings was 25th place. For Ruud, it was, despite his high ranking in the world rankings, the first time he got past the first round at Wimbledon.
