At Bares für Rares, there are always touching moments to see. This seller surprises in two ways: He has a rare Olympic object with him and then surprises everyone with his story.
Cash for Rares seller brings Olympic treasure, but the real surprise is himself
At first, everything seems as it always does on Bares für Rares. The sprightly pensioner Günther Meinel has his daughter in tow and wants to sell a collection of old objects on the show. Sports fans get their money’s worth: the 60-year-old collection consists of original Olympic objects. Even a strictly limited participation medal is part of the set. A signature from sports legend and James Bond filmmaker Willy Bogner is particularly well received.
Then the big surprise: Günther Meinel did not buy the set as an antique; He himself competed in the Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 1964. The former winter sports athlete is now presenting his own equipment on TV more than six decades later. An old photo gives an idea of how much time has passed since then:

This is how sleek the athlete used to look.
Expert Sven Deutschmanek estimates the value of the Olympic treasure at only 500 euros, but he stresses that there is no upper limit for fans: “It will be difficult to find such a complete collection.”
Tears flow in the dealers’ room: The sale of the Olympic treasure is so emotional
Already at the expert table, the former Olympic participant reveals a sweet detail: He is a huge fan of Bares für RaresFor this reason, he also wants to sell the bundle at the show: “Because I’ve been watching the show for years while drinking coffee with my wife.”

Beaming faces: The Olympic participant inspires with his life story.
The situation in the dealer room is similarly emotional, as the former athlete immediately grows close to the team’s heart. While dealers usually jump at a good deal, cult dealer Waldi seems hesitant: “I wouldn’t sell it if I were you.”
The bidding war immediately breaks out. In the end, the contract is awarded to Markus Wildhagen for an incredible 1,550 euros. The sports enthusiast was so fascinated by the Olympic equipment that he eventually even the paid three times the estimated price: “I don’t want to sell this either. I think it’s great.”
At the end it gets really emotional again: winter sportsman Günther Meinel says something that moves you to tears: “As long as I live, I will always think of you when I drink coffee.”

His eyes are glassy: dealer Markus Wildhagen is touched.
“I have moist eyes”, admits the otherwise composed dealer Julian Schmitz-Avila. The happy buyer Wildhagen also has to fight back tears. An emotional Olympic moment.
