The Swede changes his name and city – in search of the next victim • Threatens family with life
For two years, the fraudster Caroline Bergendahl is hunted by the journalist Majbrit Oddershede Pedersen in the documentary “The hunt for the fraudster“.
By frequently changing her name and city, she can evade the authorities and the judiciary – and continue to put men in debt and personal crisis.
– This very fascinating, manipulative person who leaves a trail of unfortunate circumstances in his wake, says fraud expert Sune.
Threatens family to life
Hanne Charlotte Rasmussen, as she also calls herself, commutes between living in Denmark and Sweden.
Suddenly she appears in Helsingborg. There she deceives the millionaire Bo Jertshagen – and threatens his family with their lives.
– There is a specific threat that would cost SEK 60,000 to clear a person out of the way. And then she asks if she should start with Bo or the children. It’s a serious threat, says Marcus, who works with the family’s security, says Marcus, the family’s security officer.
In Skåne, she also tricks 86-year-old Sven-Göran, a mentally ill person, into becoming his guardian – and tried to sell parts of his farm in Höganäs. She is stopped at the last moment.
But Sven-Göran never recovers from it, but is admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
– He has a guardian, so he has certain needs and she has calculated that. It seems quite cynical, says Sune.
The motive: Not just money
What Caroline Bergendahl herself has earned from all the fraud is hard to say, but the men have been left with millions in losses. However, the motive does not seem to be only about money.
– It’s almost as if she seeks out and escalates conflicts. I think that says something about her own self-understanding. It’s like she has to have the last word, she has to have her right, says Sune.
But she herself does not recognize herself in the image of a fraud.
“When I go through the endless text messages and emails, I cannot find that the specific characteristics of a fraud would be a description of me,” she writes in an email to TV4.
