The background of the fines is a protest that went through Aston Martin regarding several violations of track limits during the race weekend.

During the actual competition, 1,200 rule violations were reported to the jury. Aston Martin justifies its protest by the fact that not all drivers were punished for the fault in question.

The jury gave the drivers a five-second time penalty for four violations of the track limits and a ten-second penalty for five violations. Due to numerous violations, some of the drivers received several time fines. For example Esteban Ocon netted two ten and two five second penalties.

In its decision, the jury emphasized that it very strongly hopes that a solution to the track boundaries of the Spielberg track will be found.
