Carl Weathers fought a tough duel with Arnold Schwarzenegger for

In the face of murderous circumstances, primal animal instinct counts. This doesn’t just apply to the story of the sci-fi cult film Predator, but also for its filming. 44 years ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the recently deceased action star Carl Weathers (Rocky) fought an extremely tough training duel.

Carl Weathers was intimidated by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s muscles on a sci-fi film

In addition to Schwarzenegger and Weathers, various other muscular actors were in front of the camera for the Predator monster hunt, such as Jesse Ventura and Sonny Landham. Weathers felt intimidated by the ubiquity of biceps of steel. On The Tonight Show he explained:

I don’t train as much as people think. But with co-stars like that you can’t help it. So we shot Predator in the Mexican jungle. Arnold carried around 80,000 pounds of weights, which occupied a whole part of our hotel. I thought to myself, ‘This guy has the biggest arms in the world. I need more muscle.’

To outdo Schwarzenegger, Weathers literally had to get up earlier:

Arnold went to the gym every morning at 4:30 a.m. because our day started at 6 a.m. So I went training at 4:00 a.m. And suddenly Arnold was there at 3:30 a.m. I thought to myself: ‘This can’t continue like this.’ So I went running in the evening. At some point Arnold saw me as he drove past in the car. And the next day it ran too.

Schwarzenegger apparently could not allowing anyone to train harder than themselves. How big Predator’s muscles really had to be is anyone’s guess. The stars’ dedication was definitely noticeable. Predator is considered one of the most popular sci-fi action films of all time.
