On September 30, it is time for the “Child Cancer Gala – The Swedish Humor Prize” to start. The annual gala is broadcast live from Berns in Stockholm on TV3 and Viaplay. It is the tenth year of the “Child Cancer Gala – The Swedish Humor Prize”, and for the ninth time in a row it is Carina Berg who is the presenter.

News24 met Carina Berg and asked her everything about the important gala and what viewers can expect.
It is the ninth time that you have chaired the Children’s Cancer Gala. What keeps you doing it for so many years?
– I will do this until they ask me to stop. I am so happy every time I get the question. Being able to participate and be a small part in this, and help in something that is actually literally vital, makes a lot of sense, replies Carina Berg.

What can you reveal that the gala will include?
– It will be exactly as usual, the gala of extremes. It is absolutely inevitable that we are down in the darkest dark in this. You will be very touched and hopefully understand how important it is to join and be a child supporter. But you will also laugh.
– Then we repeat last year’s success with the children themselves being able to completely control how the final turns out. So they have had to do that again this year.
How do you tackle it as a presenter so as not to break down?
– In two ways. You put yourself in the middle of that too and make sure that people get help in going from this very heaviest to finding joy again. It is perhaps my most important job, to try to help in these transitions. But in order for me to cope with it myself, I watch the features over and over again, so that I am not surprised by anything.

During her career, Carina Berg has led countless TV shows such as “Berg moves in”, “Idol”, “Förkväll”, “Stars on ice” and not least “Melodifestivalen”. She has also renovated a house in the Stockholm archipelago together with her husband Erik Berg in the program “Bergs drömkåk”, and has been on a road trip around Europe and the USA together with the colleague Christine Meltzer.
Berg describes precisely the importance of being a guide between the heaviest and the lightest during the gala, and how both humor and seriousness are mixed.
Who do you think is Sweden’s funniest celebrity?
– There are two comedians that I have completely fallen in love with and where I just want to deeply study everything they do, because they are so terribly funny. They are the ones who currently have a new series on SVT called “Per och Bettan”. They are so funny.

Can you remember a time when you couldn’t stop yourself from laughing, even though you shouldn’t be laughing?
– Yes, maybe 9,000 times with Christine Meltzer when we were out on a trip. Meltzer doesn’t help there, she kind of laughs out loud. I remember one time when we were going to massage a man. I don’t actually remember the framing there, but he took off his shirt and then he was very furry. We would massage him with mud and then the mud would get stuck in this fur and we didn’t want him to notice it. Then we kind of tried to get the mud out of the fur at the same time and then we were very immature, and had to leave the room, says Berg and adds:
– We really did our best so that he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable. But then we ended up having to leave the room.
