Since the end of December, over twenty murders, shootings and explosions have taken place in the Stockholm area. The act of violence has led to the police deciding on a so-called special incident, which means that extra resources need to be deployed in addition to regular police operations. At the same time, more and more children and young people are being recruited into the criminal gangs.
– Young men take on assignments to climb the hierarchy, explains Carin Götblad, police chief at the national operational department, NOA in Nyhetsmorgon.
She goes on to say that as young as 14-year-olds offer to become contract killers without compensation, to take the shortcut to becoming someone in the criminal world.
