A car has run off a ferry and sunk at Furusund in Norrtälje, the Maritime Administration states.
– It was a car that drove onto the ferry that didn’t stop, but simply continued out on the other side. It drove straight through the gates and sank into the water, says Jonas Franzén at the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre.
Two people have been brought to the surface, the Swedish Maritime Administration tells Aftonbladet.
The emergency services received the alarm at 17.29 on Sunday.
– We are on site there and on our way down with divers. Full effort underway. We are there with the entire Norrtälje station, firefighters from Blidö and divers from Stockholm, said Thomas Skantz at the rescue service during the rescue work.
An ambulance helicopter and boats have also been sent to Furusund.
