The crash was prompted by a police chase after the driver of the car refused to stop for a police check.
The chase went on for about ten minutes and police tell the NT that the speed varied but that at times it “went fast”.
The police finally decided on nail carpet.
“After it hits the nail mat, the car drives into the center rail and starts to burn,” says Erik Creutz, officer on duty at the police in the East region, to the newspaper.
According to him, there were “several” people in the car, a couple of them tried to run from the scene and some were taken into police custody immediately.
It is unclear why the police wanted to stop the car in the first place, but NT writes that several people are being taken by the police for a body search.
