After the collapse of the global economic system 10 years ago, anarchy reigns in the Australian outback. Criminal gangs enforce the law of the strongest and leave death and devastation in their wake. So do the gang of Henry (Scoot McNairy), Caleb (Tawanda Manyimo) and Archie (David Field).
The trio steals Eric’s (Guy Pearce) car. However, the lonely man doesn’t want to let this go and pursues the thieves. He meets the injured Rey (Robert Pattinson). The naive young man still has a score to settle with the gang.
The Rover is a dark story that could be set in the Mad Max universe
Like Mad Max, Australia is in ruins in The Rover. Both films have roughly the same premise. A world after collapse, the law of the strongest and a scarcity of resources for which the survivors fight. But while Max Rockatansky remains alone in the fight with his opponents in the first parts, Eric and Rey get togetherto achieve their common goal.

The setting of the end times scenario fades more and more into the background during the film, so that in the end only… the actors in focus stand. Minimalism as a trump card
Admittedly, not everyone likes films like The Rover. The strip uses very few ingredients. Few actors, simple motivation and short dialogues are the order of the day. The goal of the film is clear from the start: the protagonist’s car is stolen and he wants it back. This sentence could also sum up John Wick. But the paths of these two films could hardly be more different.
Everything fits in David Michôd’s apocalyptic thriller Individual parts fit together perfectly. The barren landscapes and dialogues perfectly reflect the characters. They are just as emotionally empty. In a completely destroyed world there is little to enjoy and if you want to survive you have to be ice cold.
