On the film rating site Letterboxd, Vellani only awards two out of five stars for Captain Marvel. This causes a stir, especially because she is in the sequel plays a leading role. Following her MCU debut Ms. Marvel, Vellani stars in The Marvels aka Captain Marvel 2 alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.

While Vellani doesn’t appear to be very enthusiastic about the film, she does make one thing clear: the poor rating has nothing to do with Brie Larson. She would die for the Captain Marvel star, writes the up-and-coming actress, who doesn’t mince words when it comes to other films either and shares her thoughts with refreshing directness.

Vellani’s MCU love is unquestionable. Iron Man calls her the same first place in their favorite films on letterboxd. She even honors Thor, who is scorned by many fans, with an impressive four out of five stars. Another disgraced Marvel film gets the same rating: Spider-Man 3, starring Tobey Maguire.
Just because you’re part of a franchise doesn’t mean you have to celebrate every entry without thinking. Vellani is honest and often humorous in her criticism of Marvel, without hurting anyone. We can’t wait to see how she does in her first big screen appearance in The Marvels.

The Marvels starts on November 8, 2023 in German cinemas. The film was directed by Candyman director Nia DaCosta. Following Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels is the third and final MCU film of the year. Deadpool 3 and Captain America 4 will continue in 2024.
