An excursion for Vitja Hummertinor ended with a rib boat crashing against the rocks and a person passing away. Now the captain has been sentenced to conditional sentence and daily fines for, among other things, seafilling and causing to another’s death
It was at the end of September 2022 that a private company was on Vinga in the Gothenburg archipelago to, among other things, fish lobster. The whole thing was arranged by a representative of a company that organizes group trips at sea in ribs, but it should not have been a commercial arrangement.
During the day, both passengers and the responsible captain had been drinking alcohol and despite increasing winds and that there were no life jackets to all, ten people gave themselves out to sea to testify to lobster, writes the Gothenburg Post.
When a tamp is tangled into the propeller, the boat in hard lake begins to drive into cliffs. Five of them on board could get ashore while the other five ended up in the water. A man in his 50s died after an accident.
According to the district court, the responsible captain has been guilty of negligence in maritime traffic, seafill and causing the death of another, and points to several circumstances that caused him to fail in good seamanship.
The captain would later submit a sample that showed 0.49 per thousand in alcohol content. The limit for seafill is at 0.1 per thousand. The man has always denied all charges.
