“Can’t Be Angry Anymore”

LaGaylia Frazier broke through in Sweden when she toured with Robert Wells with Rhapsody in Rock in the early 00s.

The American became the queen of soul throughout Sweden and has since been featured in popular programs such as Melodifestivalen, Let’s Dance and Talent, and driven behind Håkan Hellström.

On Wednesday, she enters the stage again when she kicks off the Tina Turner tribute “Tina – the show” at Rival in Stockholm.

– I don’t think it would have been so healthy if I wasn’t nervous, but I’m probably more excited than nervous, says LaGaylia Frazier in Efter fem.

Went to Aruba

Frazier grew up in Miami and was talented at the piano at a young age. She says she used to sing to herself in her room when she was little, but she didn’t make her first performance until she was in high school.

– When I was 15, there was a talent show at school and my whole life changed then, I got a standing ovation from the entire high school, she says and continues:

– Then I felt that I had to meet my father, who was a singer, I went to Aruba and met him.

“After a while you can’t be angry anymore”

She says that her father left the family when she was very young, and describes their first real meeting as life-changing:

– He was so beautiful – he put Lenny Kravitz to shame! – he had so much charisma on stage and I identified myself in him. I thought, well, I’m from him!

– I tried to understand why he left, but if he had stayed he might not have been happy and then the situation would have been different. I believe in fate, maybe it was meant to be.

Today, she and her father have a good relationship.

– I was angry, but after a while you can’t be angry anymore. We are in good contact, we call on Facetime every week, and I have sent pictures from the show. He is happy for me, but I don’t know if he understands exactly what it is, he is 90 years old now.

Tickets for the premiere are sold out. The show also goes on in Jönköping, Gothenburg, Vara and Uppsala during the spring.
