Solar flares, called ‘cannibals’, are expected to affect the Earth. It was reported that there may be a problem in GPS systems on Earth with the ejection of particles from the Sun, known as coronal mass ejection (CME). CMEs are clouds of charged matter known as plasma that are ejected from the sun, releasing large amounts of energy when a group of the sun’s tangled magnetic field lines suddenly change or realign.

CMEs occur all the time but if ejected towards Earth, they can interact with our planet’s magnetic field and cause what’s known as a geomagnetic storm. It can also provide a celestial feast by causing auroras (aurora lights) to form even in regions far from the poles.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) ranks solar storms G1 through G5; G5 is the strongest and most destructive type, while G1 is mild Solar storms.

In a written statement, SWPC announced that potential geomagnetic storms could occur for two days. The SWPC also explained that a stronger storm may be possible by merging multiple CMEs at the same time. At least four storms are thought to have hit Earth since August 14.

Scientists emphasize that the expected potential G3 storms are not of concern to humans. Because they are not strong enough for people to notice or affect their lives. For example, a much stronger Solar storm, such as a G5 class, must occur before power grids can collapse or cause blackouts.
